Sand & Thorn operates out of a fixed location on Pearl Lane, lower Ul'dah, staffed day to day by Saya Kha, a Miqo'te who came up through the same circles as the rest of the organization and knows the catalogue better than anyone who didn't make it themselves. The shop is open when the door is unlocked. Walk-ins are fine. Saya handles the counter, takes orders, and knows exactly which clients get access to the restricted sections without having to be told.

The operation belongs to Yucca Al'Sahra, who built the formulations over fifteen years in Thanalan and continues to fill the more unusual orders personally. Her partner Levthgar Yorvasch runs the magitek side: commissioned weapons, custom builds, and technical devices that cannot be sourced through any licensed shop in the city.

Sand & Thorn was not planned. It grew out of necessity, the way most things do in the lower city. The fixed location on Pearl Lane came later, once the operation grew enough to justify it. Yucca runs the formulations side: roughly fifteen years of learning which plants in Thanalan heal things and which ones kill them, developed in circumstances that did not leave much room for error. No academy. No certification. The quality of the work reflects that, and the prices are accordingly honest.

Lev runs the magitek side. He is a gunsmith and engineer by practice, trained on salvaged Garlean components and several years of fieldwork that he describes accurately if asked and does not otherwise bring up. He does not cut corners and does not take commissions he cannot finish to his own standard. The catalogue exists because those are the things he will build reliably. Outside it, he considers requests if they are technically interesting, which is a threshold he sets himself.

The shop is one side of what they do. The other is fieldwork: contracts, extractions, operations that take them across most of the known world. When the shop is closed, they are usually somewhere that is not Ul'dah. When it is open, Saya is at the counter and both of them are reachable when the matter requires it.

Yucca grew up in the city orphanage and built what she needed from what the streets offered. This explains the prices she charges, the clients she refuses, and why the children two streets over get their medicine for free. There is a third thing she will not confirm directly: the operation that used to bleed vendors and run trafficking through the desert routes changed hands, and whoever runs it now has different rules. The sand coins appearing in Brass Blades reports carry a hare on one face. Make of that what you will.

Saya Kha

Saya came up through the same circles as the rest of the organization. She was one of Zahira's own, one of the children who passed through the orphanage and stayed close afterward, and when Zahira died she did what made sense: she stayed useful. Yucca offered her the counter on Pearl Lane and she took it without much negotiation. The terms were fair. The work was familiar enough.

She handles the day-to-day of the shop. That means the walk-ins, the regular clients, the inventory, and the order log that goes to Lev at the end of each week for the magitek commissions. She knows the full catalogue, including the restricted sections, and she knows which clients get access to what without being told. If she asks you something before completing a transaction, answer honestly. She asks for a reason.

She is not a member of the Sand Court in a combat capacity. She is, however, a member, and the people who work the Pearl Lane area are aware of it. This has resolved certain problems before they became problems. It is a useful arrangement all around.

When Yucca and Lev are out of the city, Saya runs the shop independently. She does not take orders she cannot fulfill and she does not make promises on Lev's behalf without checking his schedule first. If you need something that requires either of them directly, she will tell you when they are expected back and hold your name for follow-up.
